Shelley Herbert- Shea

Obituary of Shelley Herbert- Shea

In loving memory of Shelley Herbert Shea who passed away at the Temiskaming Hospital on Wednesday September 26th, 2018 at the age of fifty-nine years.

Beloved wife of Richard Shea, proud mother of Samantha (Jeff Slemon) and Vanessa (Justin Maille), loving daughter of Kaye Watters, sister to Lynn (Larry Baldovin) and Rick Barron (Cindy), and Aunt to Kaylin (Justin Marmara) and Casey (Mike Beaulieu).  Shelley was pre-deceased by her first husband Sandy Herbert and her father Porky Watters.

Shelley was the first Triple Gold Medallist (Figures, Free and Dance) of the New Liskeard Figure Skating Club.  After obtaining her Gold, She and her Dad travelled to Quebec City where she auditioned for ‘Holidays on Ice’ and upon returning home received a telegram to report to Innsbruck, Austria.  It was at this time that she made the career decision to become a professional skating coach and remain close to home - a decision that has positively influenced literally thousands of young skaters. She obtained her Level 3 National Coaching Certification and travelled annually to coaching clinics hosted by national and international coaches.  Her career began with the Kirkland Lake Figure Skating Club and continued for many years with the New Liskeard and Haileybury Figure Skating Clubs. In the past decade or so Shelley developed a power skating program that has attracted hockey players of all levels.

She produced numerous Gold Medallist’s yet more than that, she inspired, encouraged and developed the self-esteem of every skater and hockey player she worked with. Her weekends were often spent at the rink cheering on her power skaters in their hockey games.  In the same spirit, she judged the local Harvest Queen Pageant each year and was supportive and proud of each contestant and enjoyed the comraderie of the other judges.

She made friends everywhere she went, as a young skater, a coach, on her regular visits to Yard sales and of course through the many local neighbourhoods she has lived in.

Shelley’s happy place was on the ice working with kids.   The Herbert-Shea family extends its sincere gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Blount and the staff of the Temiskaming Hospital for their support.
