Obituary of Hilda Waugh

Hilda Waugh died peacefully at Temiskaming Hospital on Sunday, March 4, 2018.

She is survived by her children Don & Joan, Kathy and Brian; her grandchildren Jennifer & Andrew, Andrew, Steven & Jess, Dean & Maggie, Richard, Stephanie and Barb; and her great-grandchildren Braydon, Emma, Kyle, Jack, Jordan, Alexis, Bethany and Madison; and her sisters Margarete Emminghaus and Chris Buitenhuis.  Hilda was predeceased by her husband Roy.

Hilda was born in Germany in 1926, and after her family immigrated to Canada in 1930, was a life-long resident of the New Liskeard area. Her childhood was marked by the effects of the depression of the 1930s and by the efforts to achieve high school and normal school (teachers college) graduation.

Hilda was a respected teacher at the Center Block of New Liskeard Public School, and was a member of the UCW, Rebekkah Lodge, Friends of the Library and made many other volunteer contributions to the community.

Hilda was a gifted knitter and quilter, baker of delicious desserts, and happy hostess of afternoon coffee for neighbours and family. Hilda instilled in her children values of honesty, respect for others, interest in family history and a love of joyous Christmas Eve celebrations. Hilda will be missed by her family and friends.

The family will host a celebration of Hilda’s life for family and friends on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 2 pm from the Perrin Funeral Chapel.

Hilda’s last years were spent at Northdale Manor and her family had the privilege of spending time with her in the Palliative Care Suite at the hospital.  Memorial donations in Hilda’s name may be made to Temiskaming Hospital, designated to the Palliative Care Suite; or to Northdale Manor.
