Celine Godreau

Obituary of Celine Godreau

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Celine Frances Godreau, remarkable Wife, Mother, Education Professional and Friend.

Celine passed in the early hours of Thursday December 12th in her 58th year, with her family by her side, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with breast cancer.  Her unwavering strength and determination inspired all those around her in the ICU and her positivity kept her smiling until the end.  Her beautiful soul touched all those she encountered over the years and will never be forgotten.

Celine was predeceased by her Father, Leonard Auger and will be dearly missed by her Mother, Carmen; her Brothers Mark (Farzaneh), Louis (Carmie), Denis (Brenda); her Husband Gary and their Children Brendan, Cayley (Andrew & Anthony), and Kieran - as well as many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

Celine’s passion was her work.  As a School Administrator, Celine always supported her Staff and had their back, often at her own peril.  To her, it was always what was right not who was right.  As a Teacher, she always advocated for her Students to get them the assistance that they required and she treated everyone the same and worked tirelessly so that her Students could have the best opportunities to realize their potential.

This passion, along with our kids’ hockey, figure skating, dance, soccer and lacrosse kept her life busy and she had time for few hobbies.  In the summer, if there were no courses to be taken, the Family roadtrip brought fun, laughter and song for a few weeks.  Whether it was white water rafting in Maine, Ontario, B.C. or Montana; zip lining at Whistler or down in Georgia; skiing at Tremblant; enjoying the serenity of the Canadian Rockies, Yellowstone, the Black Hills of South Dakota, and our favourite places in Waterton National Park; finding the biggest rollercoaster or waterpark we could find, or just laying on that beach with her toes curled up in the sand - Celine was happiest when surrounded by family.

Celine will always be remembered for her smile, her laugh, her love of telling a good stooooorryy, her beautiful singing voice, and her love of knitting.

In honouring Celine’s wishes, there will be no service and cremation has taken place.  Instead, Celine requests that anyone who wishes to remember her, have a mass for her at their place of worship.

Her final journey will be back to Montebello Quebec where it all began.  It was not only the place where she and Gary were married, but it was the place of some of her best childhood memories, such as visiting with her Grandpapa and Grandmama, her Aunts, Uncles and Cousins at many family gatherings.  New Year’s Day at the Chateau Montebello was always filled with that “joie de vivre”, with multiple conversations of French & English going on all at once, as the room filled with laughter.

In lieu of flowers, Celine requests that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society to continue the research so that one day a cure for Triple Negative Breast Cancer made be found and tears of sorrow will be turned to tears of joy.
