Obituary of Ena Carleton

Ena Carleton (nee Scott) , of New Liskeard, Ontario, passed away on Saturday, September 7th, 2019 at the age of 81, at Temiskaming Hospital, after suffering from Parkinson's disease for many years.

 

Perrin Funeral Chapel will be handling the funeral arrangements. Visitation will be held at Perrin Funeral Chapel on Friday, September 13th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held at Bethel Gospel Chapel on Saturday, September 14th at 11:00am, followed by a lunch in the basement of the Chapel. Burial will take place at Harley Township Cemetery immediately after the service.

 

Ena was born in Dymond Township to Thomas and Violet Scott (nee Moore) on August 2nd, 1938. She went to school in New Liskeard and Hudson Township and graduated from Ottawa Teachers’ College in 1957. She went on to earn a degree in Psychology and Sociology from Laurentian University while teaching full time. A long time resident of Hilliard Township, Ena taught in Dymond, Harris, Hilliard, and Hudson townships before spending the last 25 years of her career at Kerns Public School, teaching Kindergarten for most of that time. She continued her work with students through volunteering at the Bethel Gospel Chapel and at Kerns for several years after her retirement in 1992. Ena also participated in the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program for many years. She was an avid coin collector and enjoyed a diversity of spectator sports as well. Ena enjoyed spending time at the cottage on Twin Lakes and at many family gatherings.

 

Ena is survived by her daughter, Patty, and son, Brian; her siblings – Eleanor McKelvie, Jim (Linda), Janet Gore (Lorne), and Susan Scott (Bernie Cull); her grandsons Jake and Ryan Grisé; her sister-in-law, Lynn Carleton, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Alan, her parents, her sisters Lois Pedersen (Aksel) and Nancy Peddie (Howard), her brother Bill, her nephews Orin and Lorin Gore, her brother-in-law, Jim McKelvie and numerous Carleton in-laws.

 

If desired, memorial donations to Ronald McDonald House, Samaritan's Purse Canada, or any other children’s charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged.

 

The family wishes to extend their extreme gratitude to Dr. Ryan Sayer and the team of healthcare professionals and support staff who attended to her needs at the Temiskaming Hospital and especially to all her caregivers who spent so much time with her over the past three years.
