Obituary of Bernice Carson

Bernice May Carson (Noland) was born to Joseph Arthur and Agnes Christina (Davis) Noland on September 29th 1931 on their farm in Mills Township, Manitoulin Island. She was the youngest of 10 children.
  Bernice is survived by her two sons Morgan (Verna), and Wilbert (Teresa). She is also survived by two siblings Rhoda (Russell deceased) Carson and Albert (Lena) Noland and many other family and extended family members.
     Predeceased by her husband Dennis, and siblings, Ethel (William) Ruttan, Ruth, Herb (Gladys) Noland, Stella, Roy (Norma) Noland, Harry (Eunice) Noland, and Lyle.
     After the loss of her mom in 1949 she left the island in pursuit of work in Peterborough and Toronto. She met the love of her life in 1950 and married him in 1952. They settled 3/4 of a mile from his family homestead in Hillard Township and there built their own farm and started a family.
     Bernice was proud to work alongside her husband on their farm consisting of cattle, laying hens, meat birds, and later a certified seed grain business. The "bird" part of the farm was mainly her responsibility along with raising the children and regular household duties. She was well known by many families in the surrounding area from doing door to door sales of eggs, garden produce and delicious baking. She was always there to mother a sick or orphaned animal as well as to care for and love abandoned ones too! She was known to take in and care for a few two legged creatures through the times as well.
     Over the years Bernice looked after and cared for her father and a few others in need, within their home(s). She always seemed to be there when that natural mothering was needed....
     Being a lover of flowers and the garden she naturally was there to help and support her eldest son when he started his own greenhouse operation which is still in business today. At this time she went back to class and got a certificate in horticulture which she was very proud of and held dearly.
     Another love she had was to bake.... she always had an abundance of mouth-watering goodies for her family and friends. She attended the New Liskeard Farmers Market in the early years and would spend hours and hours baking to fill her tables with such a variety to sell and come home with very little. 
     Bernice retired along with Dennis in 1999 to their new home, built by them and their two sons, 1/4 mile from the farm.
     Over the years Bernice had many health issues but always seemed to struggle, fight and win each battle. Sometimes surprising many too! With the help of family, friends and support workers she was able to remain in her home and be independent till the end when she lost her last battle.
     On April 19th 2019  in the New Liskeard Hospital she passed away at 87 and joined her lifetime love Dennis. She was surrounded during this time by family and friends.
     Visitation (1pm to 3pm) and service (3 pm) is being held at Perrin Funeral Chapel in New Liskeard on Wed. April 24^th. A lunch to follow at her home in Hillard.
Bernice will be dearly missed by many near and far away....
