Obituary of Herbert Vahey

In loving memory of Mr. Herbert Vahey who passed away at the Temiskaming Hospital on Tuesday March 12, 2019 at the age of 88.

Herb was born in Kirkland Lake on November 16, 1930 to Helen and David Vahey. He grew up in Kirkland Lake, moved to Welland and returned to the north in 2007 when he moved to New Liskeard. From 1950 until 1964 Herb served his country in the military, one of those years being in Egypt. As a carpenter, Herb loved working with wood and spent many hours building ships for his whole family.

Herb will be missed by his loving wife Elsie, his daughter Sharon of North Bay, his grandaughters Shantell and Christina, his step children Evelyn Barrington (Keith), Robert Gorman (Paulette), Gail McGibbon (Dan deceased) and David Gorman (Deb), 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, his sister Anne Crouse (Lester) of Peterborough and his brothers Doug (Lorraine) of Burleigh Falls and Alex of Gananoque. He was predeceased by his parents,his son Shawn and his sister Clair.

At Herb's request, there will be no services. Cremation has taken place.

He was the toughest man we knew but always kind to everyone.
