Thomas Locke

Obituary of Thomas Campbell Locke

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our husband, Dad, "Pa", uncle and friend on October 24, 2018.  Cam died peacefully with his wife and daughter by his side at the North Bay Regional Health Centre at the age of 73.  He valiantly battled complications of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome over a period of three-and-a-half years.

A longtime resident of Temiskaming Shores, Cam was born in St. Thomas, Ontario to Amanda Grey Locke (née Affleck) and Thomas James Locke.  He was educated at Elmdale School, King George Public School, Central Elgin Collegiate Institute and the University of Western Ontario.  Cam began his high school teaching career in Ridgetown, Ontario.  In the late 1960s he seized the opportunity to return to his beloved Northern Ontario where he had spent very happy years in his youth.  During his career at Timiskaming District Secondary School, Cam taught English, French and Sociology.  He also counselled countless students, becoming a well-respected head of the guidance department.  Cam was passionate about helping others reach their full potential.  He was a keen intellect who enjoyed music, reading, puns, baseball, travelling, and most of all, spending time with his family.  Cam was a devoted member of the Temiskaming Shores Library Board, the Overtones Mens' Choir, the Temiskaming Community Choir and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in New Liskeard.  He was also very active in Kiwanis and Big Brothers during their respective tenures in the area.

Cam is survived by his loving wife Irene, his son Jim (Rebecca), his daughter Kirsty, and his grandchildren Kaitlyn, Jaime and Robbie, along with his nephews and their families.

The family will receive friends on Saturday November 3, 2018 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church from 10 am until noon. The funeral service will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church the same day at 2pm, with Pastor George Paraskevopoulos officiating.

If desired, donations to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church (cheque only), the Temiskaming Diabetes Program (cheque only) or the charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged.
