Obituary of Jeanne Arnold

Jeanne Arnold passed away on August 25, 2018 at the Temiskaming Lodge after a series of illnesses over the past several months. She would have been 90 years old on September 19, 2018. Jeanne was born in New Liskeard, the second daughter of George and Christine Arnold. She was predeceased by her father George and her mother Christine, her sister Jacqueline and many aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her sister Joan and brothers-in-law, Clair Shepherdson and Jack Kincaid, her two nieces Debra (Whitworth) and Jane (Cameron) and one nephew, Daniel Shepherdson and their respective partners and families. She is also survived by many cousins and their families.

Jeanne first worked for Northern Telephone Limited, doing general office work, for five years. Then she worked in the accounting department at Hill Clark Francis Ltd. for a few years and finally as a legal secretary for Mr. Ralph Ramsey in New Liskeard. She moved to Toronto in 1957 and continued to work as a legal secretary for a number of years. During this period she studied voice at the Royal Conservatory of Music and was the paid soprano soloist for the Leaside United Church in Toronto for three years. She then sang in the Eglinton United Church choir for 31 years. In 1963, she was  employed as an executive secretary and registrar for the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) and in 1978 she was made an honorary member of the OAA. After her retirement from the OAA in 1989, she was presented with an Order of Da Vinci Medal for her outstanding contribution to the Association.  This medal is rarely given to a person who is not an architect.

In January 2014, after she became ill in Toronto, she moved to New Liskeard to the Northdale Manor. After a fall there she was in the hospital for about seven months and then finally moved to the Temiskaming Lodge in April 2016, where she remained until her death.

Jeanne has been cremated and her ashes will be interred in the New Liskeard Pioneer Cemetery on September 1, 2018 at 2pm.
