Obituary of Rudi Ptok

Rudi Karl Ptok died with his family close at Temiskaming Hospital on July 7,2018, in New Liskeard at the age of 88.

Rudi is survived by his wife Karin (nee Maru) of 66 years, and his children Ernest (Cathy) of Sudbury, and Sylvia (Bob) of North York. Grandfather to Brittany (Remington), Cortney (Kyle), Corey, Caitlyn (Ryan), and Alannah. Great-grandfather to Travis, Logan, Jaxon and his future sister Jaelin (August 2018).

Rudi was born on April 18, 1930 in Beuten, Germany.  He immigrated to Canada in 1951,and shortly after arrival, married Karin. After living in Toronto and Kirkland Lake, Rudi and family moved to New Liskeard in 1961 where he remained until his passing. Rudi began working for Ministry of Transportation of Ontario in New Liskeard as a mechanic, where he remained for his entire working career.

Throughout his life, Rudi enjoyed reading newspapers to stay current on events occurring locally; enjoyed woodworking, built a cottage and fishing camp, and built many household furniture items for all of his family.  He enjoyed fishing, and spent many hours fishing local lakes within Northeastern Ontario and Northwestern Ontario. In later years, he spent considerable time at Twin Lakes, fishing, and enjoying cottage time.

 Rudi was an active and dedicated member of OPSEU during his working career.  As a parent, he volunteered for New Liskeard figure skating club, boy scouts, and other of his children’s activities.  In his retirement, Rudi was actively involved in many local organizations which included Temagami Local Citizens Committee, Lake of Bays Association, and OFAH.

At Rudi's request, there will be no viewing or service. Cremation is scheduled for July 8.
