Obituary of Gordon Campbell

It is with sorrow the family announces the passing of Gordon Arthur Campbell on December 17, 2009, of cancer. Born in Harley Twp. September 3, 1928 to pioneer parents Arthur & Clarice (Overton) Campbell. Gordon married the love of his life, Carmel Dodds on September 3, 1949. Predeceased by his parents, infant sister Sadie, sister Pamela (Laurence) Jibb; sisters-in-law Sharon (Doug) Campbell, Joan Dodds Hooper; brothers-in-law Lee Dodds, Norman Vertolli; parents-in-law Norman & Kathleen Dodds. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carmel; his children Brenda (Doug) Goddard, Shirley Allen, Dr. Norman (Cheryl) Campbell, Donald (Cathy) Campbell; 9 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren and one Great Great grandchild. Also survived by sisters:Dorothy Vertolli, Barbara (Bill) Graves; brothers Angus (Shirley), Mac (Linda), and Doug (Sheila); brothers-in-law George (Dorothy) Dodds, Richard (Anne) Dodds;sister-in-law Susan Dodds (Bob Korhonen). Gordon was a man with old fashioned values like integrity, honesty and fairness; his word meant everything. He always strived to do his best. There was no stone left unturned, no detail missed. He was well respected and served his community with over 36 years as volunteer fireman #15 and treasurer with the NLFD; 10 years on the Recreation Committee; and he and Bun Phippen spent many hours flooding the ice rink on Rebecca Street for many years. Gordon was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. He worked as a milk delivery man, then for 35 years as District Supply Supervisor with DHO/MTO in New Liskeard. He also crop farmed the family homestead in Harley Twp. with brother, Angus. They grew registered pedigreed seed oats for 25 years before retiring from farming in 2005. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Perrin's Funeral Home on Sunday December 27, 2009 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm; with a service on Monday December 28, 2009 at 2pm at St. Paul's United Church, Reverend Kitty Miller officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Biker's Reunion will be gratefully acknowledged.
