Condolences
My Condolences to the Family , A Coast Guard friend of mine Gary Supple would also like to send his Condolences .
Don was the first person I met in the Coast Guard Fleet as he was on duty when I joined my first ship Alexander Henry in the dead of winter in Thunder Bay 1984. Don and I sailed together off and on over the years until he retired over 20 years later. I had by then become Captain of Samuel Risley and had the pleasure of hosting his retirement party onboard. Throughout those years Don was always a steady hand, good natured, ready with a good story about Susan or their cat, and a good person to share a watch with. My condolences to his family, he is missed by his CCG family too.
Captain John Cork CCG (ret'd)
I sailed with Don on the Samuel Risley. He was a great guy with the ability to always make a hilarious comment at just the right time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this very difficult time.
I sailed with Don for many years onboard the Samuel Risley. His cheerful and calm presence on the bridge was so very much appreciated and he was loved by all who sailed with him. Whenever I think of my time on the Risley, he is among the first people I remember and that makes me smile. I hope that Susan and his family can find joy in their loss from the happy memories that Don undoubtedly leaves behind. Larry Green CCG Ret’d
My condolences to the family. I sailed with Don during the first year of my 38 2/3rd year career. He was always a gentleman to this young cadet beginning a life in the CG. He always had time for jokes and stories and made this Cape Bretoner feel welcome in Ontario. RIP Don.
I sailed with Don for many years on CCGS Samuel Risley. He was a respected and well-liked man, a steadying influence on the Bridge of the ship, always calm and collected. I remember when Don was nearing retirement, he was unsure about leaving the job that he loved. I helped him work out the numbers to show that staying home on a pension was not much different financially than going off to work for 6 months of the year. He was hesitant to make such a big change and said he would think about it. After he left the ship on crew change day, I went to pack up my gear and found a note from Don on my bunk along with a bottle of Crown Royal. The said simply, "You're right... thanks!" And off he went into retirement. Memories of Don will always bring a smile to my face.
Capt. David Fowler, CCG (retired)
I sailed with Don years ago on the Alexander Henry and on the Risley. Don was a very friendly person we had many a chat up on the bridge. I have fond memories of the time we spent together. I am certain he will be greatly missed by family and friends. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Rest in Peace Don, you helped make the Coast Guard a real service to Canadians, our sincere condolences to your family. Charles Gadula
I met Don while sailing aboard the Alexander Henry. He was such a pleasant man who always had a joke or a memory to share. He had such a kind heart and cared about everyone. He was always so proud when it came to family. He spoke highly of his wife Sue, and his children. We lost touch over the years and just a few months back he found me on Facebook and we chatted a bit. I would like to offer my condolences to his wife Sue and their children as well as Munchie's friends. God bless.

When I would see him at the grocery store he would ask how my grandpa was n I would break down crying n he would give me a hug he has good hugs n hold my hand telling me to stay strong and just be there for my grandpa. When my grandpa was dying he would call and come to the house to visit. Many times met up with him at tim hortons with my grandparents or my grandpa would always go by his street n stop and say hello. He loved to tell stories about his cat and was such a sweet man with funny jokes and a big heart. You will be missed. Even sometimes he wasn't well himself but he remained with a smile n a few jokes. Thinking of you Sue n family love ya
