Obituary of Ross Norton Sr.

In loving memory of Ross Norton Sr., who passed away suddenly at his home in New Liskeard, Ontario on Wednesday February 10, 2021 at the age of 89. He leaves behind his wife, Marjorie Norton of sixty-nine years and ten months. He was a loving Father to two children, Ross Jr. (Julie), and was predeceased by his daughter Carol (Mark Sargent) in 2010. Also survived by his grandchildren Nick Norton (Candace), Nathan Norton (Sarah), Dustin Sargent, Shane Sargent (Lara) and his great grandchildren that he adored, Lennyx Norton, Scarlett Norton and Chloe Sargent. Ross was predeceased by his sister and four brothers throughout the years. Ross was self-employed for most of his life. Ross is a former employee at Elk Lake Planning Mill, a yard foreman at Rexwood. While working for Rexwood, he also owned and operated a school bus company, Ross Norton Buslines, out of Elk Lake Ontario. After selling his busline, Ross moved into the trucking industry with his brothers Carl and Jack Norton, formed the Norton’s Brothers Trucking Company that hauled shavings from all around the area back to Rexwood. Ross also worked for H. Fiset and Sons and Laginha Entrerprises in Elk Lake throughout the years. Ross later partnered with his son Ross Norton Jr. to haul logs until retirement in 1998. Ross was a mainstay in the Elk Lake sports community coaching both hockey and fastball. Ross was the head of the sports association of Elk Lake, operated the curling rink and organized the August Long weekend festivities throughout the years. Ross also can be remembered for orthodox pitching to none other than his wife Marjorie Norton as the catcher. Ross also enjoyed playing hockey and curling in his younger days. The best way to describe Ross would be as a devoted family man. He devoted his entire life to the love of life, Marjorie, and to the rest of his family. Marjorie will fondly remember the morning and nighttime kiss that Ross gave her nearly every day of their 69 years of marriage. Cremation has taken place, due to his wishes, there will no service.
