These paintings of our family cottages, done by Nora, hang in my home as a testament to the friendship and respect we had for her. My deepest sympathies to the Vissar family. Doug Dean
Our deepest condolences to Judith and family on the loss of your mother, my beloved aunt, Nora Visser.
Tante Noor was a wonderful person, gentle, calm, loving. She had a warm sense of humour and knowing smile. A truly beautiful, elegant lady with a quiet, unassuming way. Words don’t capture her true essence. She was very dear to me. My interactions with Tante Noor throughout the years have left an indelible mark on my life.
During my grade school years we visited our Oom Han and Tante Noor often at their farm in Carlton Place, Ontario. It was truly a treat for us city kids to stay on “the farm” and live the rural life. Best of all was baking with Tante Noor in their big, cozy kitchen with its huge table and old fashioned stove. It was the hub of family life, with an ambiance of warmth and fun created by Tante Noor. I can still smell the wonderful baking aroma!
My last visit with Tante Noor was in 1998 when we were in Toronto at Judith’s place. We had great fun telling stories over family pictures in old photo albums.
In 2004 Tante Noor surprised me with a Christmas note written in one of her art prints. I only discovered later that it was her art print when I suddenly deciphered the tiny initials NHV (Nora Hulsker Visser) on the card. The drawing reminds me of their first farm located in a forested area near Huntsville, Ontario. Inside the card was printed Psalm 119:105 which is: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Our love and prayers for my cousin, Judith, and the Visser family, as they say good-bye to their beloved mother, during this difficult time. We are all comforted to know she is now in heaven with Jesus, and we will meet her again in glory.

My memories of Nora will always be of her working on a painting in the corner of the art club room/studio in Haileybury. She enjoyed beauty in nature and often showed this through florals and country scenes in soft pastel tones. In earlier years (1980's), she would attend Cobalt Artist Colony and one of my paintings depicts Nora seated on the hillside on Jamieson St. quietly sketching away. Beside her is Mr. Bartlett,Sr. Daintree Bartlett is viewing a subject with her pencil. We are all working diligently on our paintings under the watchful eye of our instructor (in red cap) John Keast. Nora will truly be remembered by regional and local artists. She was always a very strong presence. Condolences to the family on behalf of Northern Artists.
