Obituary of Elizabeth "Betty" Eckensviller

MARY ELIZABETH (BETTY) ECKENSVILLER (NEE FITZGERALD) OBITUARY It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Eckensviller (nee Fitzgerald). Betty passed away at the age of 91 on Thursday, December 10, 2020, at the Village of Riverside Glen Long Term Care Home in Guelph, Ontario. Betty was born on October 8, 1929, to the late Jack and Norma Fitzgerald of King City, Ontario. As a child, Betty along with her family moved to New Liskeard which remained her home until 2013 when she moved to the Toronto area to be close to family. Betty married the love of her life the late Garry Eckensviller in 1952 whose relationship was admired by many. With great love, they raised 4 children: Norah (Brian), Mary (Jim), John (Luisa) and Anne (Tom). She was fortunate to have her grandchildren Andrea, Katherine, Sarah, Greg, Heather, Ashleigh, Michael, John Fitzgerald, Nathan, Justin, Jeremy and grieved the loss of her grandchildren Kristopher, Geoffrey and Christopher. She was blessed to have 14 beautiful great grandchildren as well. Betty was the oldest sister of 9 brothers and sisters: Bill, John, Ted, Rosemary, Averil and the late Gerry, Terry, Mary and Marg. She will also be greatly missed by the vast number of extended family members and friends. Betty made her home as welcoming as it was beautiful where her children enjoyed a loving and wholesome family environment. As a parishioner of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, her faith was her life and she was continuously devoted to the Catholic Women’s League. She took up painting later in life and created beauty on page that we all cherish and are extremely proud of. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all of the Personal Support Workers, Nurses and Doctors at the Village of Riverside Glen LTC Home for their loving care over these past few years. Betty has been taken home to New Liskeard but due to Covid 19, a Celebration of Life is being postponed and will be held in the Spring when it is safe to come together. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
