Obituary of Vera MacKenzie

Mackenzie, Vera On November 20th an angel in her 91st year got her wings and left this earthly realm to join with her mother (Edna),father (Jim),aunt (Dorothy),aunt Lillian, uncle (Lorne) and a multitude of friends and pets, mainly cats, that led the way before her. Vera passed away peacefully early Friday in the loving care of the palliative staff at the Temiskaming Lodge in Haileybury. She is survived by her brothers Don (Pam) Huntsville, and Gordon (Jane 2001) Sault Ste Marie. Remembered fondly by her nephews, Barry, Josh, Mike and Kitchener and nieces, Kathy, Sandra and Jeannie as a kind and gentle woman with a keen sense of humour who will be dearly missed. Vera is the last of her line of Mackenzies to live in Temiskaming Shores. In the early 1970’s Vera and her mom moved from New Liskeard to their new home in Haileybury where they were able to pursue their love of flower gardening. Vera also spent many peaceful summers with her mom at their cottage on Fairy Lake where many fond memories were born with friends and family. Over the years Vera worked at Taylor Hardware, Northern Telephone, Hill Clark Francis, Clark's Building and Construction where she opened her first decorating business and then ventured into her own wallpaper/drapery business in Haileybury before retiring. Vera was the decorator for the very first Bolar Trailers coming from Earlton Camping Centre. From her early years Vera was active in many choral, drama, painting, weaving and crafting groups She was very proud to have been part of the Ruby Dunn Watham Choir, that became the Canadian Champions in the 1950's From those groups she made many life-long friends. many of which, we are sure, are with her now. We can only imagine those loving souls at the moment of Vera's departure being ready in some distant, yet near, place of Love and Light and Peace, ready to shout, "Here she comes". Though it is a loss for us who remain, it is pure Joy for Vera after a life well lived. If desired donations to the Heart & Stroke would be appreciated.
