Condolences
John Robin and families: I am very saddend to hear of your dads passing. Harley like Dorthy have been my life since the day I was born. From being my Sunday school teacher way back when. Hartley will be missed by all who knew him. He was one of my dads oldest and dearest friends. The poem he wrote for the little Church in Earlton I will add here just because it was his tribute to our little family Church This is sung to the tune of Little Brown Church in the Vale Oh come to the Church on the sideroad To the vine-covered Church on the hill No place has so many good memories As the Vine-covered Church on the hill Pictures on the wall tell a story Of families that use to live here Our parents that opened the Country Of loved ones that we hold so dear Hymns played on the old pump organ Make you want to sing loud and clear The pews you can see are quite ancient And our hymn books go back a few years The lot on the corner was a school ground Where the white school stood near the road We all recieved our good schooling From teachers who really did care. The big trees outside tell a story Of students that planted them there Back when the Church doors were opened The landscape around was quite bare So come to the Church on the sideroad To the vine-covered Church on the hill No place has so many good memories As the vine-covered Church on the hill Written By Hartley Houston July 19, 1998 REST IN PEACE MY DEAR FRIEND YOU WILL BE SADLY MISSED
John, Robin, Jacqueline, Patrick and Kevin: Please accept our sincere condolences Your dad (granddad) was a very special person. A true northern character I look at the great picture you chose and can hear his gentle voice. We are thinking of you and very sorry we could not join you for the service. with love and affection Paul, Renée, PJ, Jo and JP.
My sincere condolences to the family of Hartley. I have fond memories of working with Hartley on the 75th Anniversary of Great Fire and the book that we compiled following that event. Both he and Dorothy made a tremendous contribution to their community and the entire District of Temiskaming. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time. Chris Oslund
Dear John and Robin, Please accept our heartfelt condolences on the loss of your papa. What fond memories we have of your dad at Campsall's and at the Camping Centre. Always smiling, ready for a chat, a visit from this kind, gentle man certainly was the highlight of everyone's day. If one is the essence of the memories left behind, your dad was a giant of a man and will be sorely missed in this community. Please feel free to drop in for a chat and continue your dad's legacy!
To the family of Hartley: Please accept our sincerest sympathy in the passing of your loved one. He was such a special man in our communities. He started the Tri-Town Foundation Music Festival Fund in memory of his beloved Dorothy and we are so grateful for that. His weekly writings in The Speaker were always so well written and so refreshing. He had wonderful memories and he wanted to share those memories with everyone. Our communities have lost a wonderful gentleman.
John, Robin & Family My sincere sympathy to each of you. Hartley held a special place in my heart and it was my greatest pleasure to have shared the many hours with him while compiling his massive poetry and stories. I'll miss the day tripping in his big blue truck, the quiet moments on the swing set and the wonderful hugs he was so generous with. You are not alone in your grief. John & Dianne Reid, Lindsay
