Marie Aitchison

Obituary of Marie Aitchison

In loving memory of the passing of our dear Mother, Marie Lena Ellen Aitchison on September 28, 2019 in her eighty third year at the Temiskaming Hospital surrounded in the loving care of her children.

Marie was born in Uno Park Ontario on November 1, 1935 to William and Rose Hearn (Baker). Marie had a grade six education but she didn't let that hold her back.  Marie wore many hats in her lifetime, and answered to many different names, beloved wife to Carl Aitchison, all round handy person that kept the family farm operating smoothly, precious and devoted Mother to twelve children, dear mother in law to their spouses, Grandma, Great Granny, beloved sister and dear aunt to numerous nieces, nephews and friend to all.  Marie was the rock that we relied on and leaned on heavily for almost everything that was happening in our lives.  Her love of family was first and foremost in her day to day living...as well as a good game of Euchre.  Oh, how she loved a well-placed card for a lone hand.

Marie was predeceased by her husband, Carl (1999), Granddaughter Kayla Aitchison (1985) Great Grandson Ethan Lavallee (2007) and son in law Andy Menard (2006), her brothers Francis, John, Louis, James, Wilfred and sisters Mary Hearn, Shirley Jibb, Margaret Veley and Delma Loach.

Left to cherish her memories as we learn to live without her in our world are her children, Donna Dodds (Stanley), Carol Butts (Robert), Diane Menard (predeceased Andy), Bob Aitchison (Lise), Bill Aitchison (Lucille), Cathy Morrow (Howard), Tom Aitchison, Jim Aitchison (Lucie), Linda Charland (Simon), John Aitchison (Vicki), Peggy Miron (Alain), Jean Carleton (Doug).  A very cherished Grandma to twenty nine grandchildren and their partners, the unsung hero and Great Grannie to forty five of their children.  Marie is survived by her remaining siblings Joe Hearn, Marjorie Beach, Thelma Orton and Eva McLean.

The family wishes to extent a deep appreciation of gratitude for the strength and compassion from the staff at the Temiskaming Hospital and Northdale Manor during Marie's courageous fight with Congested Heart Failure and Rapid Pulmonary Edema.  There is not enough words to describe the loving support that Marie received over the years from Dr. Stacy Desilets in her health issues and Dr. Amanda Corbeil and staff on our last visit to hospital.  The words, "Thank you" just doesn't seem to be enough but thank you for everything you did to make the stays there as comfortable as possible.

As per Marie's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Marie’s Life will take place on Saturday October 5, 2019 at the Harley Hall from 2 until 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers and if desired, expressions of sympathy donations in memory of Marie can be sent to the Palliative Care program at the Temiskaming Hospital or a special charity of your choice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.

A life dedicated to her family, a heart so deeply loved, one in a million special lady: our dear Mother, may she rest in peace.
